Sunset And Deep Beats At Cafe Del Mar Posted on June 9, 2017 Words: Iain Thomson Images: La Skimal share this tweet this One of Ibiza’s most iconic venues, Café Del Mar is enjoying a busy starts to a summer season. The celebrated sunset spot has already witnessed some of the most spectacular ends to the Ibiza day, soundtracking it with a chill out journey that it was instrumental in introducing to the world. After sunset, a series of planned events brings talented DJs from on and off the island to take over the booth at the top of the new look terrace. We dropped into the world famous Café last Saturday, as the sun started its journey beneath the horizon. Sebastian Hanisch is charged with delivering a fitting musical accompaniment and he does so with ease. The promenade terrace is full, every table filled with diners taking advantage of the mouth-watering menu as day eases towards night. We were lucky enough to have secured a front row table, closest to the water, with an uninterrupted view as the sky changed from sky blue to orange to deep blue and then black. To take the edge off out hunger pangs as it did so we sampled some dishes from the menu, including chiperones – or fried mini squid – in a crunchy batter served like the locals eat it, without the addition of dips. Huge and juicy King prawns tasted of the sea and were accompanied by a peppery rocket salad with tangy cherry tomatoes and the bite of red onion and finally, pimientos padron, which were delicious, bitter and with crunchy sea salt. The atmosphere all along the promenade is a happy one, every table has been taken and the Café Del Mar Terrace, which offers an elevated view of the sun going down, is also full. There are a few boats anchored off shore, soaking up the spiritual moment as a day at sea comes to a close. They make for a picture postcard as the sun finally starts to disappear. Café Del Mar has an extensive cocktail menu and it would have been rude not to toast the end of another fine day on the island and the start of another exciting night. We opt for the signature Cafe Del Mar and the Strawberry Daiquiri as the sun finally disappears and a round of applause bursts out at every bar and restaurant along the sunset strip. As the sun goes so does the chilled soundtrack and the deep sexy house beats begin. Ken Fan is the resident in charge, who invites a selection of talented spinners to join him in delivering the perfect vibe as Café Del Mar sets you up for the rest of your evening. Brasilian DJ/ producer Fell Reis is joining him tonight and between them they are providing a mixture of Latin rhythms, deep beats, bubbling basslines and some hypnotic loops as the journey winds its way through deep house, disco and classics. It’s the perfect pre-party warm up set, keeping the famous café busy, encouraging dancing to break out in front of the booth as they steer us towards midnight. There are numerous great line-ups to enjoy this summer not to mention the 37th birthday of the iconic café; check in for sunset but bring your dancing shoes, you won’t want to leave! share this tweet this
